Effects of acupuncture on NADPH oxidase activity. NADPH oxidase activity in the WKY control was lower than that in the SHR control. Sham-acupuncture did not affect the enzyme activity but real acupuncture significantly reduced it. DPI, a NADPH oxidase inhibitor that can markedly inhibit the enzyme’s activity. Data were expressed as means ± SD (*P = 0.022 for ACU vs. SHR control and # P = 0.028 for ACU vs. sham-acupuncture)
