Figure 1From: A comprehensive platform for quality control of botanical drugs (PhytomicsQC): a case study of Huangqin Tang (HQT) and PHY906PhytomicsQC. PhytomicsQC integrates technologies for chemical marker compound analysis and chemical fingerprints, comprehensive bioresponse fingerprints and in vivo animal pharmacology validation. Currently, it combines LC/MS analysis to provide a global phytochemical fingerprint and a bioresponse differential gene expression profile to establish a multiplexed, quantitative metric for botanical quality control. A relevant animal model is used to define and validate the quality control metric and to help set batch acceptance criteria. Information-rich patterns are analyzed and compared with an established, well-characterized batch used for clinical studies. A statistical similarity score based on the ratios of the various measured data values within the pattern and varying typically between 0.0 and 1.0 is used to define pass/no-pass criteria for both the chemical and biological fingerprints.Back to article page
